It appears that Sydney Trains, the owner and operator of Trainlink, cannot maintain the necessary repairs to keep the services running.

This I believe is due to mismanagement by Sydney Trains by not keeping spare parts and offering redundancies over recent years to qualified personnel and farming out these jobs to private enterprise who don't know what they are doing.

The 11.41am XPT service Sydney to Grafton and the 19.30pm service from Casino to Sydney and passing through Taree at 1.31am have not been running for several months and Sydney Trains has no idea when these services will resume.

As usual it's always the regional areas that suffer the inconvenience of mismanagement of Sydney Trains as NSW only stands for Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong.

Classic examples of Sydney Trains' mismanagement was buying intercity trains "off the shelf" only to find that the trains did not fir past Springwood to go to Lithgow.

The recent bushfires in the Blue Mountains area offered Sydney Trains an excuse to keep the railway line closed for numerous weeks so urgent track work could be carried out so that the new trains could fit the line safely.

This cost the taxpayer billions of extra dollars. It would have been cheaper to have the trains built in NSW or somewhere in Australia and thus keep the money here.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian recently stated that NSW has not got the know-how to built trains. I dispute this as governments of the day have just let our manufacturing go down the drain and buy overseas.

Another dumb move by Sydney Trains is to have the service centre for regional trains moved to Dubbo where the trains will have to run hundreds of kilometres to Sydney to start their journeys to the north and south of the State.

Then to top is all off our transport minister allows ferries to be bought "off the shelf" only to find they don't fit under some of the bridges across the Parramatta River.
