About 9.20pm on Friday, September 4, police stopped a vehicle on Mudford Street, Taree for a random breath test.
As police approached the vehicle, they saw what was believed to be a shotgun on the front passenger seat.
The 26-year-old driver was then removed from the vehicle.
The firearm was identified as a replica, but its shape, size and detail was similar to a shotgun.
The man told police he manufactured the replica and was going to show it to a friend. A further search of the car revealed a 35cm hunting knife in the footwell of the passenger side.
The driver then allegedly returned a positive result to the breath test. He was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station where he returned a 0.112 reading.
After he was released from custody, the man allowed police to search his home. Here a flick knife and side baton were allegedly located.
The man was charged with possession of an unauthorised firearm, manufacturing a firearm without a licence, custody of a knife in a public place, mid-range drink driving and possession of two unauthorised weapons without a permit.
In an unrelated incident, police charged a 47-year-old Taree woman with disqualified driving.
About 7.15pm on Tuesday, September 8, police stopped a vehicle on Commerce Street, Taree.
When officers requested the driver produce her licence, the woman said she was a disqualified driver.
Checks revealed she was disqualified for one year after appearing in Forster Local Court on February 18.
She will face Taree Local Court on October 27.
