The group repeatedly blocked traffic at pedestrian crossings for up to three minutes with the aim of bringing attention to what they see as a lack of action on the climate and ecological emergency as well as the government's continued investment in fossil fuels.
Activists experienced an overwhelmingly positive response from bystanders, however did experience one driver attempting to drive through the group on a pedestrian crossing on Manning Street.
Police were in attendance and liaised with the group throughout the action.
The "Australian Mass Mobilisation" campaign is compliant with all relevant COVID-19 legislation and focusses on Extinction Rebellion's three demands; Tell The Truth, Act Now and Beyond Politics.
The group said the actions show solidarity with the upcoming "School Strike for Climate" protests scheduled for September 25 across Australia, including Taree.
They also highlight that the message from Extinction Rebellion and the school strikers is "Fund our Future, NOT GAS!"
