Decroux, trained by Jason Deamer in Newcastle and ridden by Christian Reith won the 2000 metre, $100,000 event by a neck from Port Macquarie gelding Cogliere, trained by Marc Quinn, and Wyong's early leader, trainer Kristen Buchanan's Jazzland ($4.40 equal favourite) with Dapto trainer Theresa Bateup's Monegal fourth.
The crowd was capped at 400 for cup day because of COVID-19 restrictions. Patrons who did attend had to battle strong westerly winds and a cold day, however, Manning Valley Race Club chairman Greg Coleman said betting turnover for both days of the cup carnival are expected to be up on the 2019 figures.
