An opening bowler, Brown, 23, will be looking to make her international debut in the series. Now based in Canberra, she plays for the ACT Meteors in the Women's National Cricket League and Melbourne Renegades in the Women's Big Bash League. Brown has previously toured with Australia A teams.
"The door has really opened for players like Maitlan, who joins the squad for the first time,'' Australian selector Shawn Flegler said.
Australia and New Zealand will play three T20s and three ODIs with the series scheduled to begin late next month.

In a statement, Cricket Australia said: "The schedule for the series has matches in both New South Wales and Queensland but given the current COVID situation changes may be required. Cricket Australia will continue to work with relevant authorities and advise any changes."
Brown told the Times earlier this month that watching Australia win the World Cup in March strengthened her resolve to play international cricket. She recently re-signed with Melbourne Renegades for the WBBL|06.
Brown has been with the Renegades since the second season of the WBBL.
