Geographical Names Board chair Narelle Underwood said it's important the names reflect the character and history of the local area and community.
"We want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide their feedback on the proposed names," Mrs Underwood said.
The Alexander Newton Reserve is proposed for a reserve located between Pretoria Parade and the Manning River. The name recognises Alexander Newton, a prominent ship builder in the 1800s.
Dhunggaarr Reserve is proposed for a reserve between Diamantina Crescent and the river. The name is the Gathang word for pelican.
Harrington Crowdy Head Chamber of Commerce president Cliff Hoare said the decision to name the reserves preserves the ship build history of the area.
"We're trying to bring the history of Harrington back to life and encourage tourism here because it's so important," Mr Hoare said.
Submissions must be lodged before Monday, September 7 via the board's website, email ss-gnb@customerservice.nsw.gov.au or post to the Secretary Geographical Names Board, 346 Panorama Avenue Bathurst NSW 2795.
