Katie, who grew up in the Manning and currently lives in Sydney, said she was "proud and incredibly humbled" that the song and video had been recognised in this way.
"Always By Your Side was by inspired by my nephew Tom Hardyman, who tragically lost his battle to sarcoma cancer in April at the age of 20, during COVID-19," said Katie.
"Tom was a truly remarkable and inspiring young man who achieved so much in such a short time.
"He fought so hard to never give up during his four and half year battle with cancer.
"It was always my intention to provide hope through song, and hopefully tell a real story so as to raise awareness to sarcoma, a rare childhood cancer.
"I'm so proud of everyone involved and so honoured that people are connecting to this song. It's so special that Tom's courageous fight is inspiring those all around the globe.
"Whilst the song was never about winning awards its so humbling that we are able to raise awareness and provide hope to such an important cause."
Katie said after she wrote the song, she felt the need to tell a more realistic story through the video about what the song was about.
"Three sarcoma patients and Tom's family very bravely allowed me to tell a small part of their cancer journey through the photos they gave me to accompany the words of the song. And they will always hold a very special place in my heart.
"Working alongside Ashleigh, Molly and Charlii, I was able to see the real picture of courage, determination and resilience in their own fight against sarcoma.
"Tom's bravery and courage also shines in the video.
"Some of the images are confronting but so is sarcoma so to tell the 'real' story I felt I needed to include them.
"I am so grateful to these beautiful girls and Tom for sharing such a personal story with me."
Katie said while there is no awards ceremony for the three awards - the LA Film Festival has been cancelled and COVID-19 restrictions means she is unable to travel to New York for the New York Film Festival in September - there are many people to thank.
"I sincerely wanted to thank Anna Weatherup on vocals for her beautiful performance and support that she has given me throughout this project.
"To Mick Evans, my co-writer from the UK for believing in this project as much as me, Turn Around Music Studios (in Taree) for the beautiful piano arrangement and Honest Crowe Collective for recording.
"And of course Ashleigh, Molly, Charlii and Tom for showing me what courage and resilience is truly about."
She also thanked the LA Film Awards and New York Film Awards for choosing this song.
"It means we have created something special and achieved the goal of raising global awareness through song and film to hopefully get the message out about sarcoma.
"To be chosen as a winner on this platform is something truly special, especially amongst a field of extremely talented screen writers and songwriters from America (Games of Thrones, Criminal Minds and many Netflix series writers).
"We are so proud that the judging team, most of them Emmy award winners (LA Film Festival) have found merit in this song."
This is what the LA Film Festival judges had to say:
Always By Your Side is inspiring and touching. There's purity in this song, not only because of Anna Weatherup's wonderful voice. Its lyrics provide a deeper meaning to the photos of young patients who have been suffering from sarcoma cancer. Most importantly, Always By Your Side brings a message of hope and positivity, to those who need it most. You truly deserve this recognition. You created such a meaningful and memorable project. It will stay with us for a long, long time ~ LA Film Award Judges
Top Shorts film director Roy Zafrani was also full of praise.
"The lyrics, combined with the catchy tune, provide a sense of hope and courage. It speaks to the listener on every emotional level. Well deserved, it's such an amazing song."
Katie's dream has always been to have her songs included in film and she hopes through these wins she might be one step closer to achieving that.
