Back in the 1970s, children took part in a kite flying fun day at the Kennedy family's farm at Taree Estate.
In the week leading up to the event, hundreds of children would make their kites from scratch with brown paper, string, straw and rags.
Their efforts would be rewarded, the largest, smallest and highest flying kites recognised. The day was very popular with students from Taree West Public School.
The Manning River Times photographer was regularly tasked to attend social functions and this stunning collection of images is a snapshot of the time.
Do you recognise a face, a venue, an occasion? Feedback and shared memories are most welcome.
