NSW Police Commissioner Michael Fuller said this during the official opening of the station, situated in Albert Street, Taree on Thursday, June 25.
"This is what we want as the vision for future police stations," Commissioner Fuller said.
"We've got more than 400 police stations across NSW. The challenge going forward is to work with the (NSW Police) property group and the government in terms of making sure this is what we want for all our police and employees.
"It is well deserved for all the officers and civilian police officers who work tirelessly across the district. For us it's not what you need, it's what you deserve."
The new station and facilities are a far cry from the previous headquarters.
"They were working here in a dilapidated building,'' Commissioner Fuller said.
"So to be here and see such an amazing asset for the local police speaks volumes not only just for the police, but the investment in the local community."
Manning Great Lakes Police District Commander Superintendent Shane Cribb said it was a special day for Taree officers.
"They turn up every morning with a smile and comment about how good the facilities are," Supt Cribb said.
"Staff work extremely hard to protect and provide a safe community.
"The technology and design of the police station will only enhance the ability of local police to deliver a high level of service to the local community."
Throughout the planning and construction process, Supt Cribb wanted to ensure the history of the station was incorporated into the new complex.
His wish was granted, with the Police Legacy Walk unveiled at the opening. This is a dedicated walkway to the entrance of the station. Pavers were engraved with the names of Taree officers both past and present.
After the walkway was unveiled, Supt Cribb presented a $17,666 donation to Police Legacy.
Other NSW Police and political dignitaries were on hand for the opening. While construction was taking place the police worked out of headquarters in Muldoon Street.
