The section being targeted extends from its intersection with Bootawa Road through to Bobo Creek and involves widening and reconstructing the existing road pavement, improving roadside drainage, and finishing with a two-coat bitumen seal. Signage and guideposts will also be upgraded as part of the project.
"This is an important arterial route connecting travellers between Gloucester and Wingham so it's going to have positive outcomes for lots of people and it's been designed to deliver a value for money approach," explained Rhett Pattison, MidCoast Council's Manager of Projects and Engineering.
"Addressing roadside drainage improves durability, and in turn reduces the need for ongoing maintenance works."
The works will be undertaken Mondays to Fridays, from 7am to 6pm, however lane closures will be in place at all times with one-way traffic managed under traffic control.
Motorists can expect minor delays, and are asked to observe reduced speed limits, roadworks signage and directions from crews.
"As with all roadworks, please travel with caution in and around the area of works," Rhett added.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said the reconstruction of Gloucester Road was being funded 50:50 between the MidCoast Council and the NSW Government as part of the $100 million Road Upgrade Package for the Mid North Coast.
"It's great to see the NSW Government continue to invest in vital infrastructure projects that make a real difference to local communities," Mr Bromhead said.
"This is just one of 25 road improvement projects to roll out between 2018 and 2022 that aim to create safer and more efficient journeys for all road users."
Over the past five years council has reconstructed over 6.3 kilometres of Gloucester Road between Wingham and Burrell Creek.
On top of the 1.5km section about to commence, there is also a final reconstruction stage in the next financial year to complete a 1.1km section up to The Bucketts Way.
