At around 10pm on Friday, May 15, a 27-year-old Moorland man was pulled over on Manning River Drive, Taree South.
He was subjected to random breath and drug tests and returned a positive result for methyl amphetamine and cannabis.
His vehicle was searched and police located a meat cleaver in the driver's side door well. They also found drug paraphernalia.
The driver was suspended from driving for 24 hours.
A court attendance notice was issued in relation to the meat cleaver and police are awaiting the results of the drug test from Forensic and Analytical Science Services.

At around 7:50pm on Saturday, May 16, a 26-year-old Taree woman was pulled over on Manning Street, Taree, after nearly colliding with another vehicle.
The woman was subjected to a breath test and returned a positive reading of 0.111 grams of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.
She admitted she had been drinking at home during the afternoon.
Her licence was immediately suspended and she was given a court attendance notice to appear at Taree Local Court on Tuesday, August 4.
Later that evening, at approximately 9:35pm, a 31-year-old Taree man was pulled over on Bushland Drive, Taree.
He was subjected to a mobile drug test and returned a positive result for cannabis.
The man admitted to smoking cannabis the previous day.
He was suspended from driving for 24 hours and police are awaiting the results of the drug test from Forensic and Analytical Science Services.
At 10pm on Saturday, May 16, a 31-year-old Taree man was pulled over on Victoria Street, Taree.
He was subjected to a mobile drug test and returned a positive result for methyl amphetamine.
The man was suspended from driving for 24 hours.
Police are awaiting the results of the drug test from Forensic and Analytical Science Services.

At around 1:30am on Monday, May 18, police observed a vehicle in the Glenthorne Service Centre precinct.
Officers spoke with the 35-year-old male driver from Laurieton.
Police then had cause to search the vehicle and three small resealable bags of methyl amphetamine were found, along with approximately six grams of cannabis and an 18cm double-edged knife.
The man was issued with a court attendance notice to appear at Singleton Local Court on Thursday, July 16.
