"We had more than 100 people there,'' club president Kai Stanley said.
"It was a pretty even split in numbers in the open and younger divisions. And we had a few people away, so next month should be even bigger.''
Surfing was conducted at the main beach at Old Bar and Stanley thanked Old Bar Surf Club for the cooperation.
"With all the people in the water it was pretty chaotic,'' Stanley said.
He described the waves as generally 'competitive' particularly in the morning when the wind was offshort, although conditions deteriorated in the afternoon.
The Stanley family fared strongly. Adin Stanley was winner (see page 15) while his sister, Jada, won the women's section. Jada's daughter, Ruby McNeil won the encouragement award.
