On March 13, Natalie will be participating in the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave. A lot of people elect to get a short buzz cut, but Natalie is going totally bald. She willl be having her shaved completely at Robair's Salon in Taree at 11am

Her lovely locks won't be going to waste. Her hair will be donated to Sustainable Salons, where it will be sorted with other hair and made into wigs for people who have lost their hair for medical reasons.

"I am so excited to do this. I have a lot of serious health conditions myself, and because of this I am unable to give blood or donate organs," Natalie said.

"What I do have is hair, a lot of it, and it's healthy and strong. And it's something I can live without. I like my hair, but I'm not overly attached to it, other than in the literal sense!

"However I know a lot of people, particularly women, feel that their hair is a part of their identity. Losing their hair to cancer is just another blow that they don't need. It's hard enough when your body betrays you on the inside. When it takes away what's on the outside too, it's an extra level of defeat.

"From my own health struggles, I know that when I look better, I feel better. Looking good will never make you healthy or take away sickness, but it can give you confidence and strength, it can bolster your courage, it can help you face the day.

"I want to shave my hair off to show solidarity with the people who have lost theirs. I want to look in the mirror and see how jarring it is to not have hair on my head.

"And I want to donate my hair so that the people who have to face that image in the mirror can have a chance to change what they see.

Part of The World's Greatest Shave is fundraising for the Leukaemia Foundation. Natalie is asking people to sponsor her to reach her goal of $1000.

The money that is raised goes towards research into blood cancer, as well as looking after the people affected by it, sufferers and their families.

"I would love it if people would consider sponsoring me on this journey," Natalie said. "Every little bit helps."
