Eric joined Probus on December 5, 2006 and was elected secretary in 2008 and 2009. During 2009 he took on the role of vice president.
2010 and 2011 saw him guiding the club as president, then past president. This was followed by once again taking up the secretary position for seven years, 2012 to 2018.
His contribution and organising skills, community involvement and his compassion for others resulted in Probus South Pacific offering him a three year directorship, which Eric accepted, while continuing in the role as club secretary.
Both Eric and his wife Nancy's support of the club's social events were outstanding, contributing to the spirit of Probus, "to have fun, enjoy fellowship and create friendships."
In 2019 Eric was awarded life membership of Taree Probus Club. He will be remembered.
Members their wives and partners enjoyed a well attended morning tea at the Greedy Goat Restaurant.
Guest speaker at the club's most recent meeting, Digby Wilson, addressed members on his role as a technician for Telstra.
Digby has worked with Telstra for five years, having spent 33 years as a trained technician and engineer, but his choice of work is in leadership/management.
He said humans are driven to improve technology, or to invent. In 1875 Alexander Graham Bell in invented the telephone using a transmitter and a receiver.
The explosion of internet and social media is alarming. In 2015 China, 700 million people had a computer. Of the 7.53 billion people on the planet, nearly half are on Facebook. The social networks are a tool to connect people to you, and feed information to you that you may be interested in.
Our digital footprint means that you must be careful what you share, and with whom you share.
A very informative talk, providing an opportunity for questions from the members. Digby was introduced by Jack May and thanked by Bob Beardmore, for his contribution to the day's meeting.
The club's next activity is a guided tour of Stebercraft boat construction company, on Tuesday February 25 at 10am. Wives and partners are invited to join with members for this event.
New members are most welcome to come along. Any retired men interested in fun and fellowship and want to join can phone president Peter on 6556 1055 or the secretary Tony on 6552 4284 for more details.
