It's a powerful and inspiring opportunity that brings the whole community together for a day and night of fun, frivolity and entertainment as well as celebrating the survival of those who have been on their cancer journey as well as remembering those who have been lost to cancer.
At the same time Relay for Life is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen and create new friendships.
However, the event cannot go ahead without volunteers who are needed to be part of this rewarding experience, to help recruit participants, assist with fundraising, promote the event, secure sponsorship, involve and support cancer survivors and carers, organise entertainment, activities, delicious food and special ceremonies.
By volunteering you'll be doing your bit to ensure that Great Lakes Relay For Life is something really special for all those affected by cancer in your community, Cancer Council community relations co-ordinator, Lauren Fraser said.
The Great Lakes is famed for its community spirit and this is a perfect opportunity to lend a hand, she said.
Being part of the Relay for Life is a rewarding experience, knowing that the money raised is going directly to those who need it, making a positive difference Cancer Council strongly believes that no-one should have to go through a cancer diagnosis alone.

"Being part of the Relay for Life is a rewarding experience, knowing that the money raised is going directly to those who need it, making a positive difference Cancer Council strongly believes that no-one should have to go through a cancer diagnosis alone.
"That's why money raised at Relay for Life helps Cancer Council investigate new ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer, to educate people in the community about ways to reduce their cancer risk and to support people during their times of greatest need."
For this to happen Lauren is calling on Great Lakes residents to volunteer to help organise the 2020 event, which will be held on the weekend of Saturday, May 30 to Sunday, May 31, as the community comes together to remember loved ones, celebrate survival and fight back against cancer.
If you would like to get involved with Relay For Life, head online to the Cancer Council Relay for Life page and follow the prompts, or phone Lauren on 6659 8400 or email lauren.fraser@nswcc.org.au
"To continue the fight against cancer and the great progress Cancer Council is making in finding a cure for cancer, we couldn't do it without the help of amazing people like the Great Lakes community," Lauren said.
