With council actions, the flood notch at Farquhar Inlet has been opened and the south arm of the Manning River is now open to the sea for the first time in a long time.
Similarly, Khappinghat Creek has burst out through Saltwater Lagoon opening that waterway to the sea for the first time in a very long time.
RSL annual general meeting
The next meeting of the sub-branch will be the annual general meeting on February 18 (next Tuesday).
This will be a critical meeting as we know that president, Geoff Gillard and treasurer, John Richter, will be standing down and not accepting a nomination to continue.
So members should mark in their diary now, February 18 at 2pm at Club Old Bar, for the AGM and show support for the executive and committee, outgoing and incoming.
Craft at Old Bar
On February 19, the craft group's workshop involves learning more creative tea-bag paper folding methods with Pat as tutor. This will add to the tea-bag paper folding beginners' workshop last term.
Requirements include plain cards, 8 x 2" squares of patterned paper, plain paper, and any embellishments you require. It is not necessary to participate in the group's regular workshops, feel free to bring along the craft you are currently working on, or do nothing at all, just relax and enjoy the company.
A total of 53 hand-made cards were created at the initial workshop for the year. These have now been sent off to Combat Cards NSW in order that they might reach their overseas destinations in time for our servicemen and women to include their messages and get them back home to Australia in time for Mothers' Day.
Thank you so very much to all those lovely ladies who participated. Your efforts on behalf of our serving personnel will be greatly appreciated.
Craft at Old Bar meets the first, third and fifth Wednesday of the month from 11am to 2pm, school holidays excepted. Please bring your own lunch; tea and coffee provided. The venue is Soldiers' Memorial Hall, Hall Street, Old Bar. More information available from 6553 2500 or 0415 785 608.
