The project has been announced by Manning Valley Push for Palliative (MVP4P) chair Judy Hollingworth.
Called 'Collaborative Community', it is a core part of the HELP (Healthy End of Life Project), a research-based community project created and run by La Trobe University's Palliative Care Unit, which has undertaken to support MVP4P in being La Trobe's pilot site in NSW.
The project will involve mapping existing community endeavours and networks that align with palliative care.
Bringing these networks together can help a collaborative community develop that can offer support to people affected by incurable illness - at whatever age and stage.
"We can bring together the many organisations and individuals here who are concerned to support people's quality of life," Ms Hollingworth says.
"The extraordinary response of Manning Valley residents to the bushfire crisis shows what a ready community spirit there is in the area, and how much people near and far have come together to assist those affected."
'Collaborative Community' is being launched at the fourth annual general meeting of MVP4P on Tuesday, February 4. This meeting is open to the public.
Judy will present an overview of progress made in palliative care over the four years since MVP4P commenced. This will include global, national, state and local perspectives, informed by her time as a board member and deputy chair of the national body, Palliative Care Australia over 2016 to 2019.
At the same meeting, MVP4P will unveil its own website: mvp4p.org.au.
Since August 2015, MVP4P has raised more than $170,000 to improve palliative care for Manning Valley residents.
Judy was named as Senior Person of the Year last October for the Myall Lakes Electorate in recognition of the organisation's achievements, and MVP4P was also declared a finalist in the Community Groups category.
