If you take a look around Fotheringham Park and in the main street of Taree, you might find painted pixie rocks and pixie doors scattered around. But if you find something, make sure you leave it there so the pixies can find their way back home.
Sources say they are starting to arrive for a free exhibition at the Manning Regional Art Gallery that opens on Thursday, January 23, called The Forgotten Works of Pixie O'Harris.
Pixie O'Harris is famous for being an author and illustrator of children's books, and many of her fairytale-like murals and paintings adorned NSW hospitals and schools in the 1950s.
The paintings in the exhibition were commissioned by the Pink Ladies at Manning Hospital in 1957. They have been in hiding at the hospital and only discovered again in the past couple of years.
The exhibition is open now and runs until March 8. The official opening is on Saturday, January 25 at 2pm. There will be a pixie head-in-the-hole board to take photos with, and make sure you roam around the gardens - you might find more pixie doors, and if you're very lucky, pixie houses!
But don't forgot to bring your adults - parents and grandparents - because they will probably have special memories of the paintings when they were patients or visiting the hospital in Taree.
Taree Library is also joining in the pixie fun by putting out fairytales and books by Pixie O'Harris for you to read. And we hear tell the pixies might have magically hidden some doors in the library, too, so keep a look out there as well!
Manning Regional Art Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm, and Sunday 1pm to 4pm.
