We were watching the very first Back to the Future film, The Breakfast Club, Desperately Seeking Susan and Max Max Beyond Thunderdome, featuring Tina Turner.
Making news around the Manning Great Lakes was the Tooheys Cup held at the Group Three Leagues Club (now Taree Leagues Sports Club) which saw Taree hold the lead with 231 runs over Port Macquarie with 226 runs.
Summers were spent at the beach or at the pool, and Taree pool was located on the riverbank now known as Harry Bennett Park. Sand modelling was popular at the beach, with competitions held through the January school holidays at Old Bar.
