Donations for the Salvo's annual Christmas Appeal can be made at any of Newcastle Permanent's branches for individuals and families who might otherwise not receive any gifts or enjoy festivities this Christmas.
Newcastle Permanent CEO, Bernadette Inglis, said each year the collection highlights the community's generosity.
"Throughout our 31 year partnership with the Salvation Army's Christmas Appeal we've seen the communities dig deep to support this appeal. It's remarkable how many people donate gifts year after year on top of their own family giving, and our teams really enjoy the opportunity to participate by bringing in donations of their own - it's very heart-warming.
"We ask that people consider all ages when choosing donations. It can be lots of fun choosing toys for little kids, but we often forget that teenagers are still big kids at heart and that parents doing it tough are always keen to give their older kids a memorable Christmas as well," Ms Inglis said.
Some teenage gift ideas are:
- Gift vouchers (shopping centre, movies, restaurants, book store etc)
- Clothes
- Beauty products
- Sporting experiences/equipment
- Electronic/technological devices
- Board or online games
- Books
- Magazine subscriptions
"So many of our regional communities have been hit hard by bushfires this year, and many families will be foregoing Christmas, or living in temporary housing because they've lost theirs, so the need is greater than ever to share the joy with those who will find this season really hard," Ms Inglis said.
The Salvation Army's Hunter Area Officer, Major Mark Everitt, said Newcastle Permanent's ongoing support at Christmas was a great blessing each Christmas season.
"Each Christmas thousands of families reach out to The Salvation Army for assistance, and partnerships like this help us to ensure that every family has the chance to experience the joy of Christmas," Major Everitt said.
The collection will run until Friday, December 20. Donation boxes are in all Newcastle Permanent branches.
