Construction of the riverstage began on Thursday, November 21 near parkland at the end of Manning Street.
Rotary Club of Taree on Manning's Ken Raison has been instrumental in getting the project off the ground.
As the process began in 2016, Mr Raison said the start of construction is a long time coming.
"It's a real celebration for the community," Mr Raison said.
"Lots of folks around the area have been waiting for it."
Large poles for the base of the structure are currently being installed with work on the deck to begin in about two weeks.
"It's not a complicated build," Mr Raison said.
"We have all the resources so it's just a matter of putting it together."
The project was funded through a State Goverment grant as well as community fund raising efforts.
It has been supported by Rotary and Lions clubs from around the area in a bid to create a venue for concerts, presentations and other outdoor event uses.
The site will be handed over to MidCoast Council on completion.
Mr Raison said the Rotary Club is hopeful of taking on the lease for the site to ensure community groups and events have top priority.
"It will still be available for commercial use," Mr Raison added.
There has already been some expressions of interest from local cafes and restaurants who hope to use the riverstage as 'pop-up shops'.
