One of the scariest things about this situation of intense and widespread fires (after a long period of drought conditions) is that we have a federal government that is not planning on mitigating the climate change. That means this trend is set to continue and worsen over time.

Despite a 97 per cent consensus from scientists the world over that the climate is warming and it is due to human activity; despite hypotheses being proven time and time again (ie. expect longer, hotter, more intense fire seasons, expect increasing drought), the Australian government is not acting to create long term, sustainable plans to support our communities.
Our MidCoast Council is leading the way and has already declared a Climate Emergency. I can only hope our State and Federal governments will follow suit.
Without mitigating climate change we are on track for a four degree temperature rise, possibly within our lifetime. This level of temperature rise is 'incompatible with an organised global community'. This not politics, this is science. To be creating policy without considering the undisputed climate science is morally indefensible.
