"They're coming together. When the helicopters started arriving there was a sigh of relief."
Club Old Bar is being used as an evacuation centre for residents, with 350 people currently registered there on the disaster welfare register.
A further 200 have sought shelter at Taree Old Bar Surf Club.
Club Old Bar opened as an evacuation centre since 8pm Friday, November 8 and many people spent the night there.
The fire burned through bush land to the edge of Forest Lane, Old Bar this morning.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire at the eastern end of Forest Lane and no homes at the southern end of Wyden Street were affected.
It's hard to tell if any homes at Ocean Links Estate have been affected.
However, the fire crossed Forest Lane into bushland behind Wyden Street and is moving in a northerly direction towards Old Bar Road.
Old Bar Road is closed.
Waterbombing aircraft have been hitting the blaze non-stop for the last two hours.
At the moment it seems like homes to the east of Wyden Street are not under threat, but the wind is very strong and unpredictable.
There are unconfirmed reports of fires to the south of George Street and Lewis Street, where the Meridian Resort is located.
Major threat seems to be to properties on the southern side of old bar road between Wyden Street and Saltwater Road at the moment.
