The team, accompanied by coach Jordan Hardy and school principal Allison Alliston, mingled with council staff over morning tea and chatted about their thrilling 2-1 win against Westfield Sports High in the final. Jordan said the win was based on positivity and drive to win a third straight title.
"Three years in a row is an amazing achievement for every one of them and for the school as well," Jordan said.
"The girls were always positive on and off the field - there's not much as a coach that you could be disappointed with."
Down a player towards the end of the match and with the scores locked 1-1, the team rallied. Lara Watts scored a goal with 90 seconds left.
"That (loss of a player) just made us get together a bit more and realise that we wanted to win the game and take the trophy home," Jordan said.
"I think that just lifted their spirit and after getting a couple of corners I think they said 'yep, let's listen to coach Hardy and do the corners that she was telling us to do' and they got it in."
Taree won five matches to feature in the State final at Moorebank. They went on to beat Grafton in the quarter final and Mulwaree in the semi-final.
Jordan said beating a side the calibre of Westfield Sports High was a "really big achievement."
"They have coaches for their goalie, their attackers and defenders plus a teacher so for a school that is so small compared to them it's a big achievement to show even though we come from a smaller area we've got just as many talented girls," she said.
There is confidence the team can back it up and secure a fourth title in 2020.
"They only lose three players and they've got some that are coming up so it's definitely something we're looking at," Jordan said.
MidCoast Council mayor David West said the win 'speaks volumes' of the commitment shown by the team, parents, coaches and the school.
"They committed to training and team play and with that took on some of the best in the State," Cr West said.
Cr West said the team defied the perception that city based teams will always dominate sport based on their superior training regimes and facilities.
"It's so easy to say we're isolated or disadvantaged (in regional areas) but if you rise above that and instead of becoming a victim of where you live you become a champion," Cr West said.
"When you're in the bush, people look at you slightly differently and don't believe you have the skills.
"What these girls have demonstrated not only do they have the skills, they have the capacity to carry it through and that comes from coaching, captaincy and parental involvement."
