Batting at five, Larkin came to the crease after the Blues suffered a top order collapse in the first innings. He formed a credible partnership with opener and test star David Warner before he was felled by Queensland quick Michael Neser.
Larkin spooned a shot to Joe Burns in the field.
At the 70 over mark, NSW were 5/210 with a lead of 57 runs. Peter Nevill and newcomer Nicholas Bertus are at the crease.
The Blues welcomed back Warner, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc from their successful Ashes tour.
With another innings to come, the match will wrap up on Sunday.
