MidCoast Council Libraries, in conjunction with MidWaste are hosting these interactive workshops at Taree, Hallidays Point and Forster to help households save money, eat healthily and make the most out of food.
Participants will be shown how to reduce food waste, eat well and save money through better planning, shopping and storing of food.
"The average NSW household throws away $77 worth of edible food every week and in doing so wastes the energy, water and natural resources used to grow, package, transport and market that food," manager of MidCoast Council Libraries Chris Jones said.
The Food Smart workshops will also focus on the impact of food waste in NSW and how making a few small changes can save money and reduce the amount of food being thrown out.
The workshops are connected to the online Food Smart education program that provides another resource for implementing what is learnt at the workshop, at home.
Workshops will be held at Hallidays Point Library on Friday, October 25 from 2pm to 4pm, Forster Library on Saturday, November 16 from 2pm to 4pm and Taree Library on Saturday, November 30 from 11am to 1pm.
Free morning or afternoon tea is provided and bookings are essential. Visit midcoastlibraries.com.au/events to secure your spot.
This project is a NSW Government Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
