For the first time, council will acknowledge the quiet achievers and hard workers from across the region at a single ceremony.
The ceremony will coincide with the Saltwater Freshwater Festival at Forster.
MidCoast Council mayor David West said the event will bring residents from across the region together.
"This will mark an exciting change in direction in how we celebrate Australia Day on the Mid Coast, one that I believe bodes well for the future," Cr West said.
Awards to be handed out at the ceremony will be Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Activity/Event of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and the Cultural Award.
"We have a strong history of recognising the many incredible individuals and groups who all contribute to make this region a better place for everyone to live," Cr West said.
"Consolidating our official celebrations is about unity and embracing the strengths across our whole region."
Nomination forms can be accessed on council's website or at a council office. Entries close at 4pm on Wednesday, January 8 2020.
They can be submitted via email to taree@midcoast.nsw.gov.au, lodged at a council customer service counter or posted to MidCoast Council PO Box 482, Taree NSW 2430.
Local groups and communities across the region have the backing of council to host individual activities and ceremonies.
