About 7.50pm on Sunday, September 29, officers attached to Manning Great Lakes Police District were called to a home on Coulston Street to speak with a 42-year-old man in relation to an apprehended violence order (AVO).
On arrival, the man allegedly threatened officers with an axe before retreating inside the home.
Negotiators and tactical operations regional support officers were deployed to the scene.
It is alleged the man continued to threaten police for several hours before specialist police entered the premises and arrested the man without incident.
He was transported to Forster Police Station where he was charged with numerous offences including contravene AVO, using a weapon to avoid apprehension and assault/intimidate police.
