So in the spirit being prepared, we think it could be time to start getting things in order for our funeral.

No, have no fear - or cheer for those expecting a windfall from our will - this correspondent is in rude health. So unless we're run down by a bus or savaged by a South Sydney supporter we're expecting to be around for a few more seasons yet.

However, there's nothing wrong with having preparations in place and we'll soon be calling for quotes from the various funeral directors in the area.

We've already made one thing perfectly clear. There'll be no churches involved. We were forced to spend way too many hours in our younger days being bored senseless in Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church Taree, listening to lectures from priests and others on how to live a god fearing life. Under no circumstances will we be sent to the afterlife using the church as a launching pad.

Again in our younger days, this correspondent was invited to numerous weddings. We did what just about everyone did back in the 1980s - went to the pub, skipped the wedding service, then went to the reception. This is now, apparently, considered politically incorrect - what a Nanny State we've become.

However, we would assume many of those who we bypassed wedding services with would also be fronting up to our funeral. Or more to the point, the wake, which we trust will be quite the celebration.

So those who think they're going straight to the wake (and you know who you are), think again. Each patron will be stamped as they enter our funeral and again when it's over.

They'll need to show both stamps before they tuck into the free libations at the after funeral function. No stamp, no pi... sorry, drink.

The service itself will run for no longer than 10 minutes. We're not sure which hostelry will host the show, but hopefully we have a few years to work out the venue. Or maybe the Jack Neal Oval could be an appropriate spot.

The entertainment schedule for the wake will be extensive. Emails have already been sent to Adele, what's left of the Beatles, Boz Scaggs and Barry Gibb. We would be a reasonable chance of outliving all but Adele, so that list will be added to and deleted from. Is Johnny 'Sink the Bismark' Horten still available?

Those with the correct stamps can look forward to an afternoon and evening drinking chilled Tooheys New, Asahi Dry and the finest of wines.

We might even chuck in a couple of packets of chips from those who get a bit peckish.

Yes, it's going to be a grand old turnout.

Shame we'll miss it.
