To celebrate the 50th birthday of the beloved library, a morning tea will be held on Thursday, September 19 from 11am.
MidCoast Council libraries manager Chris Jones can't wait to hear stories about the evolution of the library and view historical photos from the last 50 years.
"Libraries are the heart of communities and Taree Library is no exception," Chris said.
"From its early days in what is now a MidCoast Council office building, right through to its fresh, modern home overlooking the park, the library continues to attract new members and be a haven for local book lovers.
"We can't wait to celebrate this significant milestone, together with the community and look back to honour the library's rich legacy."
When the library first open its doors, members were allowed to borrow one item from a collection of 7,000. Today, members can borrow up to 20 items at a time from a stock of 41,000 items in Taree and 162,000 across all MidCoast Council libraries.
"This is a special celebration of the impact the library has had on the community, supporting students, businesses and helping people to discover a love of reading," Chris said.
"We look forward to continuing the excellence of the Taree Library and all MidCoast Council libraries, for the next 50 years and beyond."
