Security fencing was erected on the site, in front of the Waterfront Pavillion in Queen Elizabeth Park, this week.
The Rotary Clubs of Taree on Manning and Taree, and the Lions Club of Taree, are working together to build the stage and this week advised businesses and residents that there may be extra noise during construction.
Construction will take place Monday to Friday during business hours.
"We apologise for any inconvenience but when finished this will be a wonderful asset for our town and community," the service clubs advised.
Crowdfunding for the project was commenced in June 2017. To co-incide with the crowdfunding launch a video was made in Queen Elizabeth Park, featuring local musicians Kyle and Jesse Shilling, comedian Andy Saunders and more.
Soon after, the project received a boost of $50,000 when MidCoast Council approved an application for Stronger Communities funding.
The stage will be the venue for concerts over summer and during Tastefest on the Manning on January 11, 2020.
