With years of hard work by volunteer members of the community, and government, philanthropic and community support, the First Steps Count Child and Community Centre now has the funds, totalling millions of dollars, needed to build the centre.
However, help is needed to put the finishing touches to the project such as landscaping, play areas, a community garden, a bush tucker gareen, bicycle tracks and walkways, for example.
To begin raising funds to finish the project, organisers are hosting a Spring into Spring Garden Party at Sass@Bowers on Kolodong Road, Taree on Sunday September 22.
"It's a frock up. Wear your best dress and hats, but you can forego the gloves! But if you want to come in a smart pair of jeans, that's fine," said First Steps Count secretary, Rosemary Sinclair AO.
The party runs from 3pm to 4.30pm and tickets are $40 per person. You get more than coffee and cake for your ticket, though.
"It isn't just a cup of tea. It's bubbles and beautiful food," fellow organiser Frances Barberie said.
Organisers also promise a "surprise element".
RSVPs are essential for catering purposes by September 17. To RSVP call Frances Barberie on 0319 494 894 or Rosemary Sinclair on 0417 240 269, or email us@firststepscount.com.
