Brenda Dorothy Marney did not appear at Forster Local Court before magistrate Ross Hudson on August 27, but was represented by her solicitor Zachariah Sayed, of Paton Hooke Lawyers, Taree
Ms Marney, who has pleaded not guilty to all 10 charges, including acts of cruelty to a baby pelican and an adult pelican, will return to Forster on December 4-6.
The 73-year-old, who has been under police investigation since 2018, was remanded in custody on June 21 after breaking her strict bail conditions. She was granted bail on July 26.Police allege Ms Marney attends public places in both Forster and Tuncurry and gains the trust of animals by feeding them, before taking them home and torturing them over an extended period of time.
Her charges include:
- 2 x Commit an act of cruelty upon an animal;
- Authorise carriage etc of animal unjustifiably inflict pain;
- 3 x Being in charge of an animal fail to provide vet treatment;
- Contravene licence-any other case;
- Deal in or attempt to deal in protected animal, and
- 2 x Commit an act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal.
