Between midnight and 4am on Thursday, April 25, a privately owned sambar stag was shot, skinned and decapitated on a property in Fernbank Creek, near Port Macquarie.
Officers attached to the Mid North Coast rural crime prevention team responded to reports of the incident and established a crime scene. Investigations are ongoing.
Police want to speak to the driver or occupant of a 2015 white Toyota Landcruiser with a green canopy that was last seen leaving the vicinity of the area and travelling south on the Pacific Highway towards Johns River.
The occupants of the vehicle may be able to assist police with the investigation.
Anyone with information about the incident or noticed any suspicious activity on the night of the alleged deer shooting is urged to contact the Mid North Coast rural crime investigator at Kempsey Police Station on 65616199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
