This was evident recently in the Manning and Great Lakes, with a local rural crime investigator bringing farmers up to speed with strategies to keep houses and properties safe.

Detective Senior Constable Lachlan Tancred was out and about in the area to have one-on-one conversations about rural crime and the recent announcement of increased penalties for biosecurity laws, such as trespassing.

One of his visits was to Linga Longa Farm, near Wingham.

Detective Senior Constable Tancred took the opportunity to supply a biosecurity sign and other 'no trespassing' signs.

Posting on Instagram, Linga Longa Farm's Greg Newell was thrilled with the preventative measure.

"Always nice when our local rural crime officer calls in offering new signs to replace the damage one from the weekend storms," he said.

NSW Police has a key focus on disrupting criminals and putting them before the courts. Officers would however prefer to work with the community to prevent crimes before they impact on families and their farms.
