"Tales of the River" is an opportunity to view Kate Dorrough's beautiful exhibition "The Lyrical River" and share your stories about why you love the river.
At the same time, you'll be actively helping protect the environment as your stories will help develop the community's Manning River and Estuary Catchment Management Plan (CMP).
This fun and social evening takes place from 5.30pm until 7.30pm on Thursday August 29, and includes the chance to share stories, food, wine and good company in the midst of artistic impressions of the Manning River.
"We want to know what you love about the river and why. What's important and where are the special places we need to protect? Your stories will help us look after what matters most," said Mid Coast Council's Manager of Natural Systems, Gerard Tuckerman.
The changing moods and rich ecology of the Manning River are the subject of a mixed media exhibition now showing at the Manning Regional Art Gallery.
Artist Kate Dorrough's mixed media works create an immersive experience for gallery visitors including sound recordings, video, abstract landscape paintings, ceramics and more.
Fish and birdlife, the river landscape, Biripi connection to country, and use of the river for dairy, beef and oyster production are all evoked by the exhibition.
Ms Dorrough's aim to promote appreciation, respect and protection of the River is shared by MidCoast Council's Natural Systems team, who are using the exhibition as the backdrop for this community event to share experiences on the river and what we value most.
"The connection between art and the environment has inspired this body of work. I was hoping from the start it would promote a conversation about how to conserve the river," said Ms Dorrough, who will be speaking on the evening.
