NO Mick Sullivan - no chance
That's Gary Bridge's verdict on Wingham's chances of beating Port City in Saturday's Group Three Rugby League minor semi-final.
Bridge was speaking on the Manning River Times Facebook page, previewing this weekend's minor and major semi-finals.
Sullivan, the Wingham coach and halfback, is almost certain to miss the minor semi at Wingham on Saturday as he battles ankle ligament damage. The Tigers will be well short of full strength due to injury, suspension and players unavailable and Bridge doubts they be able to end Port City's run, making it another lean year for the southern Group Three clubs.
Bridge had a lean run with his predictions in the opening week of the semi-finals. selecting Forster-Tuncurry and Wingham. He's determined to improve from here to the semi-finals.
He believes Macleay Valley will have too much strikepower for Wauchope in the major semi at Kempsey on Sunday. Bridge added he thought Port City would down Wauchope in the final on Sunday week.
Bridge went for an upset in Sunday's league tag major semi between unbeaten Port City and Forster-Tuncurry. He thinks the Hawks will be first into the grand final leaving the Breakers to play Taree City in the final.
He noted that whatever happens this weekend, there'll be one southern team in the reserve grade grand final in a fortnight as Wingham plays Forster-Tuncurry. Bridge favours the Tigers to beat Forster on Sunday.
The under 18.5 major semi between Macleay Valley and Old Bar is potentially a classic, he said. He'll be on the Pirates, with the Mustangs to play Port City in the final.
Bridge will give his opinion on the finals next Friday on the Times Facebook page at a time to be determined, while he'll also outline Taree City's plans for 2020 and beyond.
