Fifty eight artists have been shortlisted in the biennial art prize which continues to grow, with the range of entries this year making it difficult to narrow the field.
Artists from all stages of their careers entered works in a range of mediums including sculpture, painting, ceramics, drawing, photography, installation and video - highlighting the diversity of approaches to the representation of the human form.
'Naked and Nude' is an evocative theme for creative inspiration, and this is the only art prize of its kind in Australia.
A gala opening will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 6.30pm when the winner will be announced, taking home the $30,000 prize money.
As the art prize is acquisitive, the winning artwork is donated by the 'Friends of the Gallery' to the Manning Regional Art Gallery's collection.
The Friends of the Manning Regional Art Gallery (FOGs) is an independent, voluntary, not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting and developing the gallery and the growth of the visual arts in the Manning Valley.
The FOGs volunteers contribute countless hours in reception and retail, unpacking and organising artworks, installing and dismantling exhibitions, assisting with the organisation of and catering for exhibition openings and other events, and grounds maintenance.
People's Choice voting for Naked and Nude will also take place from September 7 until October 13, 2019, giving locals and visitors the chance to vote for their favourite artwork. A $1000 prize will go to the winner, announced on October 15.
The judge for the 2019 award is Denise Mimmocchi, senior curator of Australian Art at the Art Gallery NSW.
"We're delighted to have Denise be a part of this year's Naked and Nude Art Prize," gallery director, Rachel Piercy said.
"She brings extensive knowledge, talent and perspective to the judging of this year's prize and we can't wait to hear her thoughts on the different pieces."
