Busways began operating a fleet of wheelchair accessible, ultra-low floor buses six months ago that weren't equipped with toilets and had reduced luggage space compared to the fleet previously used.
Despite introducing a toilet stop into the route, the decision was not popular among passengers, with member for the Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead lending his support to those opposing the change.
Mr Bromhead said he had spent the last six months lobbying the NSW minister for regional transport and roads, Paul Toole, on the issue.
Earlier this month, Busways reintroduced toilet-equipped buses onto their 150 and 151 services, citing community feedback as their reason for doing so.
"Following feedback from the community, Busways has re-introduced coaches on routes between Newcastle and Taree that are equipped with toilets and luggage storage areas," a Busways spokesperson said.
"While these vehicles are not wheelchair accessible, Busways is working with Transport for NSW to ensure that all of the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act are met by 2021."
Mr Bromhead caught one of the toilet-equipped buses down to Newcastle after they were reintroduced and said it was a great result for those who regularly used the service.
