"I'm super excited have a park I'm actually comfortable taking my child to in Taree," wrote Phillipa Marie on the Times' Facebook page. "But I do worry that it may not be appreciated and valued by members of the community. Regardless this shall be fantastic for so many families and children."
This inclusive playspace project will include an internal bike track, crab climber, a sand pit, swings, play tables, an accessible carousel and more. Construction is expected to take up to 18 weeks and will include a new public toilet block.
The project is funded by the NSW Government together with MidCoast Council and donations from Newcastle Permanent and Rotary.
Variety Livvi's Place Taree is part of a national network of inclusive playspaces, developed in conjunction with the community and 'Touched By Olivia', who have entered into a partnership with Variety - The Children's Charity.
"Fotheringham Park is the perfect place for a play space of this kind," MidCoast Council's director of community spaces and services, Paul De Szell said. "It's going to be a place where residents and visitors of all ages, stages and abilities can meet, socialise and play side-by-side."
"The existing playground is being dismantled, as is the toilet block. We are aiming to minimise disruption to surrounding neighbours but remind people in the community to keep away from fenced off areas and to observe construction site signage."
Variety Livvi's Place is the result of extensive consultations, planning and fundraising and it will be a special place where everyone can enjoy the benefits of belonging and being an active part of the community.
