All her abstaining is for Dry July in honour of her mother-in-law Yvonne Ratcliffe who died from cancer on Mother's Day this year.
Less than a week into July and Lauren has already exceeded her $1000 goal by more than $100.
"A lot of people have supported me and donated more money than I thought they would," said Lauren.
In fact just after we talk for our interview, one of Lauren's clients donated $100 cash to the cause.
Lauren is very grateful and hoping to raise as much as she can for people affected by cancer.
Her family were devastated by the loss of Yvonne.
"Yvonne was a wonderful lady. She was a foster care mother/respite carer for more than 50 children," said Lauren.
"She had so much love to give. And even took in a young boy in need only weeks before she left us when she was the one in need of looking after."
Yvonne died just five weeks after her diagnosis.
Lauren believes more funding is needed in regional areas for patient testing, support for their families and GP education.
You can support Lauren with her fundraising by visiting her Dry July page at www.dryjuly.com/users/lauren-molloy or pop in to see her at work at Bravissimo Hair Studio in Chatham.
