History tells us that most community bands played at local bandstands or halls on regular occasions, some of them every week for devoted audiences. Music performed ranged from Overtures, Marches and popular music of the time.

Manning Valley Concert Band's upcoming concert includes a selection of music that would have been performed on these bandstands.

Joining the band for this concert will be vocalists Mick Standen and Lisette De Grey, performing with the Manning Valley Stage Band, and Sydney trumpet player, Adrian Munn.

Selections of music to be performed include "All Glory Told" by James Swearingen, "Radetzkey March" by Johann Strauss, "Yorkshire Ballad" by James Barnes, "Original Dixieland Concerto" by John Warrington, and "The Rolling Stones on Tour".

The concert will also showcase three special performances. Adrian Munn will perform the stunning post horn solo, "The Post Horn Galop". Riley Brown, one of the youngest members, will feature on the xylophone performing "Happy Mallets".

The finale piece was composed by the little-known member of the Bach family, PDQ Bach. The piece, "A Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion", was adapted to the modern concert band by Professor Peter Schickele. A piece not to be missed.

The Manning Valley Concert Band is a community ensemble dedicated to bringing a diverse selection of band music to the Manning Valley. The band is comprised of musicians from all walks of life and instills the value that music is a life-long event. New players are always welcome.

Mr George Hoad will once again be the Master of Ceremonies, and will also perform during the concert.

The concert is at St John's Anglican Church, Taree, on Sunday July 14 commencing at 2pm. Tickets are $10 and are available at Bass'n'Blues Music, phone 6551 5067, or at the door.
