The society was conceived in 1995 to encourage film diversity in the Manning Valley and cinema appreciation in a regular social atmosphere.
Its first screenings used 16mm projectors at the Manning Valley Visitor Information Centre. Eventually screenings at other pop up venues, open air nights and Fays Twin Cinema filled out its program.
The society is always on the lookout for unique cinema experiences and Once My Mother, Curse of the Gothic Symphony and The Snowman were screened with the film makers introducing their movies.
Taree Film Society recently received a grant from the NSW Government's Regional Cultural Fund towards a DCI standard projector to use at the Manning Valley Visitor Information Centre.
Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead was on hand for the society's return to the venue. A very appreciative crowd enjoyed Everybody Knows with first class vision and sound and some celebratory catering.
Taree Film Society now alternates between the visitor information centre and Fay's Twin Cinema.
All Is True (M) will screen at 7pm Monday, July 8 at the visitor information centre.
The year is 1613, Shakespeare is acknowledged as the greatest writer of the age.
But disaster strikes when his renowned Globe Theatre burns to the ground and, devastated, Shakespeare returns to Stratford where he must face a troubled past and a neglected family.
Haunted by the death of his only son Hamnet, he struggles to mend the broken relationships with his wife and daughters. In so doing, he is ruthlessly forced to examine his own failings as husband and father.
His very personal search for the truth uncovers secrets and lies within a family at war.
