Hazardous surf conditions are in store for the north coast this week, prompting a warning for water users.

With a large easterly swell and strong winds predicted, The Bureau of Meteorology warned most beaches and rock platforms in the region will likely see treacherous conditions.
Surf Life Saving NSW (SLSNSW) advised the public to be cautious on the coast, stay out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.

SLSNSW chief executive officer Steven Pearce said it's important to check local conditions before heading to the beach.
"At this time of year, only 12 beaches are patrolled in NSW," Mr Pearce said.
"It's vitally important that beach goers consider the dangers associated with coastal activities in hazardous surf.
"By overestimating your ability in the water or on rock platforms, you're not only compromising the safety of yourself but also our lifeguards and emergency services."

No beaches on the lower north coast are patrolled at this time of year. Patrols will resume in late September.
Despite challenging conditions, it was business as usual for competitors at the Inflatable Rescue Boat State Championships.
Due to the heightened swell on Saturday at One Mile Beach, the event was moved to Forster Main Beach on Sunday.
"Conditions were really challenging on Saturday," Kiama Downs SLSC team manager Steve Strong said.
"The surf was large but it was also very choppy. It was challenging for every crew. To make it through the rounds you had to be smart, you had to drive to the conditions not flat out.
"It was a great call by the competition and safety committee to move to Forster on Sunday. It gave everyone the best chance of finishing the event."
SLSNSW surf sports manager Rob Pidgeon commended the Cape Hawke work party and event officials for a smooth relocation of venues.
"The ability of our teams to move to Forster enabled us to continue with the event. Drivers and crews also showed exceptional skills in the surf which enabled the competition to progress."
