MidCoast Council will consider the need for a report into a draft climate change policy and action plan for the Barrington Coast.

Councillor Peter Epov has lodged a notice of motion, calling for the report. It will be considered at MidCoast Council meeting in Forster on Wednesday, June 26.
He asked that the general manager commission the report and it be presented for debate at a council meeting within 120 days.
"Climate change is already having and will continue to have an impact on our biodiversity, on bush fire, east coast lows, floods and storms, heat, human health, sea level risers, soil and water resources," Cr Epov says in his preamble.
"By having a better understanding of future impacts and risks of climate change on our environment, our communities, our business and our lifestyle, we can take pro-active measures to prepare and build resilience to, and minimise impacts of climate change, and adapt for the future."
Cr Epov said council had a fundamental responsibility to ensure all necessary steps have been taken to identify the risks and minimise the impacts of climate change or our communities and on future generations.
His list of items the report should cover include:
- Identification of potential climate change risks to the Mid Coast, including the residents, businesses, farmers and our environment and biodiversity;
- The identification of current activities by council to mitigate carbon emissions, energy consumption and broader climate impact.
- The identification of activities, programs and projects that council could undertake in partnership with residents, businesses and farmers to reduce climate impacts.
Cr Epov also asks that the report identify potential partnerships with other councils, the NSW Government, Federal Government and other parties.
Council meets at the Forster chambers at 2pm on Wednesday, June 26.
