Rod Baldwin (Copacabana) claimed another NSW title thanks to his performance in the over 55 men.
Baldwin found a handful of playful left handers to post a respectable 11.16 two-wave heat total and get the edge over runner-up Ged Cook (Warners Bay), who had recently spent two years out of the water due to a back injury. Both Baldwin and Cook have qualified for the 2019 SAE Group Australian Surf Championships.
Neil Cameron (Byron Bay) added another State crown to his long list of accomplishments, taking out the over 60 men. Cameron managed to get a narrow lead in the low-scoring affair thanks for a handful of cutbacks that allowed him to get the opposition against his opposition. Cameron will earn his spot into the seeded rounds at the upcoming 2019 SAE Group Australian Surf Championships.
Sandra English (Budgewoi) and Mel Bartz (Pacific Palms) both took out respective top honours in the over 50 and over 35 women. English and Bartz topped the leaderboards over the course of their dual heats to get the titles and take the trophies back home.
Max Perrot (Lennox Head) ensured a title would head north taking out the Single Fin division. Perrot put on a blinder of a performance in the division posting a handful of scores in the seven and eight-point range to get the win over Jamie Doran (Anna Bay) who claimed second position.
The prominent four-day event will see more than 150 competitors - aged 35 and above - battle it out in an attempt to secure an NSW shortboard title and a spot in the national titles at the 2019 SAE Group Australian Surf Championships in Tweed Heads.
A range of former World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour surfers and Australian champions will compete in the event including Jay Phillips (Fingal), Shane Wehner (Broulee), Rod Baldwin (Copacabana), Jake Spooner (Bulli) and Glenn Pringle (Cronulla).
