The facility, to be built in the vicinity of Old Bar Reserve, the community pre-school and tennis courts, will provide mobile and wireless broadband services on the 2G, 3G and 4G networks and will be compliant with regulations in relation to exposure to electromagnetic energy.
The maximum predicted energy emitted will be 0.53 per cent of the Australian Communications and Media Authority mandated exposure limit.
This is significantly less than the maximum allowable exposure, where 100 per cent of the limit is still considered safe.
It will also contain several features that will minimise the amount of energy used and emitted.
These include a dynamic/ adaptive power control, an adjustment of the number of transmitters in use, a variation in the base station's transmit power to the minimal required level and discontinuous transmission (that automatically switches the transmitter off when no speech or data is being sent).
Consideration for the application was delayed by several months to give councillors more time to review information.
The application was then unanimously supported by all councillors at meeting last month.
