With the nation gripped by the effects of the Great Depression, the Australian government introduced a quota to have American based films created 'down under'.
Based on a short story by beloved American author Zane Grey, Rangle River was filmed in the Gloucester area in 1936.
Starring American actor Victor Jory and newcomer Australian actress Margaret Dare, the western style film was shot predominately at Rawdon Vale on the outskirts of the town.
With its rolling hills and amply cattle, the location was perfect. Local farmers were used as extras in the film to look after the cattle. The film premiered later that year.
