Over 1000 lady bowlers have arrived in town this week to take part in the Palm Lake Resort State Carnival, and with the sun shining and catching up with old mates, everyone is in for a happy memory-making week.
With a record number of entries, this year's Carnival has nine venues with the finals being held at Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club.
NSW Women's Bowls president Maryann Parcell says the State Carnival is growing in popularity each year.
"It's a massive event with not only 268 teams but many more people involved as friends, supporters, bowls managers and bowls fans,'' Parcell said.
"The atmosphere is absolutely electric with everyone catching up with old friends. Lots of people are here for the first time and will be making new friends who they'll catch up with year after year."
Teams competing this year have travelled from as far north as Alstonville and Ballina and as far south as Commercial Albury and West Wylong. Interstate players from Queensland have also arrived.
Lots of local teams have joined in the action. Tuncurry Beach, for example, is well represented with 37 players in nine teams.
The event kicked off on Sunday with afternoon tea, with over 400 people in attendance. A great time was had by all and many stayed on for dinner.
The Carnival has become a Women's Bowls NSW institution and as the name suggests it is the atmosphere that the event creates that makes this event more popular each year.
The event is so much more than a bowls competition, many of the ladies see this as a holiday, and the choice of this year's location has proved a big hit.
Last year, Australian bowls star Sarah Boddington and her Tuncurry Beach-Composite team delivered five stunning unbeaten days of bowls to win the prestigious women's State Carnival at Warilla.
Boddington beat a spirited Milton Ulladulla 27-15 in the semi-finals and then beat South West Rocks 17-12 in the 18-end final.
