Unlike a car rally, these club events are open to kindred clubs all over the State of New South Wales and beyond and not classed as a race.
There is no competition for a rider who is quickest from start to finish. Actually is is more like a pleasant ride in the country surrounds on quiet sealed roads almost traffic free.
The host club provides marshalls to man difficult corners and tricky intersections, assuring the entrants take the desired route and don't get lost, which is an important factor.
Machines are judged for originality and appearance by popular vote from the entrants themselves. Eligible motorcycles are encouraged to be at least 30 years old since manufacture.
Saturday night is the formal occasion where trophies are awarded to the winners in all age related categories by much acclamation and catering by the Singleton Bowling Club is eagerly looked forward to. Not many leave the venue underfed or famished.
This year Singleton drew a complement of somewhere nearing 160 motorcycles where riders met old friends from previous club rallies and renewed greetings.
Unfortunately some have meanwhile joined the riders in the sky and perhaps that will be my future fate, no more rallies and an absence of articles in the newspapers.
